Our Story

Welcome to our little hand dyed yarn business Cozi Yarn Studio.  My name is Andrea and together with my husband Geoff we produce beautifully hand dyed yarns for you to enjoy.

My love of yarn started at the age of 6 years old when I was given a ball of black yarn (yes black) to knit a scarf.  It may have been a tad holey but it was something that meant so much to me.  After that I scoured libraries for anything knitting or craft related.

When I was pregnant with our first child I made the most beautiful baby blankets, matinee jackets the works however a year later we moved to Queensland and I put the needles down for many years as I thought it was to hot to knit (silly really).

That child has now grown up and had his own baby making us grandparents so out came the needles again and I have not stopped knitting and crocheting since.

My love of yarn came right back and then after originally coming from NZ where we had the most gorgeous yarn from local sheepies I had to scour the internet for lovely wool and then I came across Indie Dyed Yarn and the rest is history.

Enter my hubby Geoff.  He is actually a product developer who specialised in formulation.  I told him I wanted to start dyeing yarn for myself and low and behold he wanted to play also using skills he learned at Uni.  

We are both passionate about the environment and nature as I know most people are.  We add our little bit by recycling where possible, packaging with compostable bags/tape, packing in boxes as well as printing on recycled materials where possible.  

Along with our desire of sustainability is a love for 100% wool products (non Superwash).  When I first started dyeing, I spent a lot of time trying to source ethical and sustainable product, as that is what I grew up with and what I was used to knitting with.  I was lucky to find a farm not far from where I grew up in NZ who made the most gorgeous super soft wool product that I fell in love with.  There are so many reasons why I endorse pure wool, and would really like more people to discover the benefits and the enjoyment of knitting with it.

Another big love of ours is travelling and even though this year our wings have been clipped in recent years along with everyone else, you will never find me far away from my needles and yarn whilst travelling.  Having a motorhome where we can just park up anywhere is fabulous and enjoy the serenity with projects in hand.

We are only a small yarn dyeing business as we both still work full time with Geoff in marketing and myself running a company as a Mortgage Broker.  This yarn dyeing business is my heart project where I can put my artistry skills to work and make something that others will enjoy.  As a Mortgage Broker, I have won many awards for customer service which I can proudly say is something that I am just as passionate about in this little business also.  If I can’t help you with yarn, I can help with finance.
